What’s Hot, What’s Not? Blogs For Techies
What is Tech News? Technological news is a mixture of industry-focused, official press releases, commentary and analysis, product and engineering news, and travel stories related to technology, all published on the Web. The term “Tech” was coined in the 1970s by a person (read technology visionary Waltz) who envisioned a new industry dedicated to “Thing-shaped goods.” The industry that he envisioned blossomed years later, to become one of the most prolific print publications covering technology news.
A plethora of tech news sites are available for your browsing pleasure. Many have up to date information on their site including new products, industry news, new products announced, current happenings, and much more. A quick Google search of tech news sites will yield hundreds of results. Some tech news sites, such as AOL and CNN, strive to publish original reporting. Others, such as Business Journal, rely primarily on industry experts providing comment and analysis. Still others, such as the BBC and The Wall Street Journal, present editorials from top industry executives.
Many of the major publications such as The New York Times and USA Today offer up their own blog or hire freelance writers to write up their own tech news. Their blogging, along with USA Today’s blogging, allow them to provide up to date information on every aspect of technology from new products to new trends. In addition to blogging, these publications also publish editorials and feature stories, often providing firsthand reporting from industry insiders.
In addition to offering up information on the latest tech gadgets and technological innovations, several publications offer up information on cutting edge television programs, television news shows, movies, TV shows, music, videos, and new products. For example, The New York Times routinely publishes a tech column that includes information on the hottest items, most watched TV shows, movies, music videos, and what critics are saying about popular cable TV shows and programs. Mobiles have become a large part of our daily lives, as well. Whether used for business, pleasure, or both, mobile phones are one of the most popular forms of electronic media today. The popularity of smart phones and other new mobile technologies have contributed to many of the trends discussed in tech news, making it important for the public to be aware of the latest mobile technologies.
One of the newest additions to news sites is the blog, Phoneaday. This site provides up-to-date information on the latest gadgets, such as the Sony Ericsson XPERIA 2, Verizon’s Extremely Simple Pen, Apple’s iPad 2, the Blackberry Storm phone, and many more. In addition to posting up-to-date information on new technology industry trends, Phoneaday lets its readers comment on the topics. Other blogs that feature phone reviews, such as PC Magazine’s TakeMeOne, also feature input from phone experts.
With all of this in mind, it’s no wonder why people turn to blogs for their smartphone and tablet reviews, especially the popular Apple blog, Macatchew. Macatchew features reviews on the new iPhone, iPod Touch, the Motorola DROID, the HTC Evo Shift and many others. The HTC Desire HD, which sports an 8.2-inch widescreen display, was recently announced by AT&T, which means that fans of this handset can join in on the conversation. If you’re not a tech enthusiast, you’ll probably appreciate the variety of subjects the blog offers. And if you do decide to purchase a device, you can always read the reviews at Macatchew to see if there’s anything you need to think about before shelling out cash.
